Obituary of Cathleen Molloy
At 9:20 pm on April 30th, 2018 Cathleen F. Molloy passed peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus. Cathleen was visited earlier in the evening by her son and daughter-in-law Patrick and Harriet Molloy. She was accompanied by Hospice and the caring staff at the Deerfoot Manor Assisted Living Facility in Deland, Florida. Cathleen was 90 years old.
Cathleen was born in Dublin, Ireland and immigrated to the United States with her mother, Mary Howson, to the state of New York at 6 months of age. She spent the majority of her life living in New York. There, she raised six children while working for the Catholic Church as a housekeeper and cook at the Sacred Heart Church and Convent, and later in the Sacred Heart Rectory.
Cathleen spent much of her life in the service of others. She was a strong woman with a tough persona, she was never afraid to speak her mind and let someone know exactly what she thought. Even though she had a tough exterior, Cathleen also had a compassionate heart for those in need. When those in need would come to her in search of food, she would always take the time to ensure they were well-fed and had any other necessities that she was capable of providing.
In 1973, Cathleen moved with her youngest son, Patrick, to South Florida to care for two retired priests. She later moved to Deland, Florida where she worked as a cook at Stetson University before retiring in 1991. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening and spent many years caring for three of her grandchildren. She loved being around children and glowed with happiness whenever a child was around.
Cathleen faced many challenges in life, including a successful battle with Breast Cancer and later, a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. To the end, she was a spirited fighter, defying many odds and refusing to give up whenever life knocked her down. Her strength of person was her defining characteristic-she will be greatly missed.
Cathleen was preceded in death by her husband John Joseph Molloy Jr., her son John Joseph Molloy III, her daughter, Cathleen Frances Young, sister, Marie Howard, and her two step-brothers Mark Benjamin (whom she affectionately called “Beau”) and Charles Benjamin.
Cathleen is survived by her children Edmund Molloy, Charles Molloy, Anne Kuligowski, and Patrick Molloy, her 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
