Obituary of Richard Flanigan
A man of many talents and interests, Richard A. Flanigan's ventures ranged from tool and die making to plastics manufacturing to running a restaurant to farming.
His hobbies varied just as widley, including piano playing, politics, juggling, weightlifting, coin investing and researching volcanoes and natural disasters. What he valued most throughout life, however, remained his family and his faith. Richard died just after midnight on Sunday, January 14, 2018. His is survived by his loving wife, Alice, to whom he was married for 68 years. They raised four children; Richard J. Flanigan, Kathleen Alford, Christopher Flanigan, and Teresa Munyon, who in turn raised their 11 grandchildren: Elizabeth Ward, Christine Flanigan, Michael Flanigan, Mary Kennedy, Julie Turgeon, Ryan Paiva, Kelly Rapanaro, Sarah Bourne, Maggie Munyon, Monica Munyon, and Peter Munyon. So far 11 great grancdhhildren have joined the clan, with two more on the way!
Richard lived his faith to the max! At the age of 18, he joined the Rosary Club as its very first member and later served as President of what was to become Our Lady's Rosary club Makers in Louisville, Kentucky. During the 1970's Richard was very active in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal an orginial donor to EWTN and personal friend of Mother Angelica, he even mortgaged his farm to keep EWTN afloat in 1980's! IN recent years, Richard was a regular and substitute adorer in St. Peter's Adoration Chapel, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Minister to the Sick, Auxiliary Member of the Legion of Mary.
"Do what you should the best you can." Richard said it, and he lived it. Let us do the same.
