Obituary of James Crawford Leonard Jr

James Crawford Leonard Jr, 74, died October 21, 2020at home in Orange City, Florida. James will have agraveside service on Saturday, November 7, 11 am at The Phillips Family Cemetery, Montgomery County, Georgia.

James (Jimmy/Jim) was born on July 20, 1946 in Miami and raised in south Florida.  As a teen Jimmoved to Orange City with his parents and 3 siblings. He followed in his father’s footsteps working in building construction. Years later Jim followed his loveof music and played with various bands. In 1963 he started playing with the Montereys and eventually becoming its lead singer. He was a member of the Monterey’s for over 40 years. Jim also enjoyed flying, completing his first solo flight in 1970.  He and Bob Rabideau partnered in buying and reselling small aircraft. He also had a love for horses including barrel racing. He was a past member/ president of West Volusia Saddle Club. Jim met Jackie (Frierson), the love of his life and married her in 1971. Together they raised 3 children, Donna Skipper, Shelly Ward and James III. Jim later went into the TV sales and servicebusiness with Bob Rabideau. (Blair- Rabideau TV.)  Everyone knowing Jim understood his love for NASCAR, all sports, boating, family vacations traveling the country in a RV and above all his family.

Jim is predeceased by his parents James Sr and Flossie Leonard and his siblings Audrey McCue, Claude (Sam)Leonard and Alice Waterloo.

Jim is survived by his wife, their children and grandchildren, Alan Ward, III, Jacob Gregory, Colin Ward and Austin Berson-Leonard; plus many nephews and nieces.
