Obituary of Barbara Jean Franklin
Barbara Jean Franklin, of Deland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 9, 2020. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 1, 1936. Barbara was a joyful, kind-hearted person who never knew a stranger and was a lady in every regard. She was a devoted mother and grand-mother and was dearly loved by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Retired American Airlines Captain Reilous Franklin; her sons Brian (Monica) Franklin of Sarasota; Kevin (Rosalyn) Franklin of Tampa; Kenny (Ruth) Franklin of Tampa; eight grand-children; and is preceded in death by her loving son, Bradley Franklin. Barbara grew up in Winter Park, Florida, was a graduate of Winter Park High School and attended Averett College in Danville, Va. Barbara met and married the love of her life, Reilous A. Franklin, who was a pilot in the Strategic Air Command at a military dance and it was a match made in heaven. Barbara and Reilous were married in March 1957 and were married for 63 years. Their love, devotion and commitment to one another lasted a lifetime. Barbara and "Reg" began their lives together in Omaha, Nebraska and over the years they were stationed around the country before moving to Deleon Springs and finally Deland, Florida, which was their hometown for over 35 years. Barbara was passionate about her family and was happiest when spending time with them. She had a great love of country, was a proud American and loved everything Americana and Disney.
A visitation will be held at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E New York Ave, Deland, FL at 12:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2020, followed by services at 1:00 p.m. and burial at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
