Obituary of Gerald W. Doyle

Gerald “Jerry” Doyle passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 12, 2020 at Halifax Hospice in Orange City, Florida after a year long illness. Jerry was born on July 17, 1941 in Chicago, IL to Gerald and Grace Doyle. Jerry married the love of his life, Margie, on July 28, 1962 and they were married 57 wonderful years. They had two children together, Tom and Debi. They loved to travel across the United States in their motor home while enjoying fishing, sightseeing and going to casinos. They took great joy in taking their grandchildren on a lot of their adventures. Jerry had a love for cars that started by working in his father’s gas station as a young boy. Later he developed a passion for auto body collision repair. After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Margie, they started their business, Jerry’s Body Shop, for nearly 50 years before retiring in December of 2017. Jerry and Margie worked together all of those years. Jerry was always a very active volunteer in his community starting in Pompano Beach, FL in the 1960’s by being a volunteer firefighter. He began his 47 year involvement with the Elks Lodge starting in Pompano and continued in DeLand. He also was an active member of the DeLand Eagles, long time member of the DeLand Breakfast Rotary with many years of Perfect Attendance. He was a long term Board member of the Safety Committee of the Deland Chamber of Commerce. He helped start the Body Shop Program at the Daytona State College Advanced Technology Center and served on the Board for many years. He attended the DeLand Citizens Police Academy and was one of the founding members of the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and served on the Board. Jerry was very loved by his family, especially his grandchildren. He had great joy being mischievous with them. His family and friends will all miss his smile and “goofy” sense of humor. He is predeceased by his mother, Grace Doyle; father, Gerald Doyle; and sister, Patricia Scott. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marjorie “Margie”; sister, Dorothy Simon of Des Plaines, IL; brother, Michael (Donna) Doyle of Stokesdale, NC; son, Tom (Juanita) Doyle of Maine; daughter Debi (Frank) Dunn of DeLand; granddaughters Stephanie Negrete and Kyndall (John) Underhill of DeLand; grandson, Kori Doyle and two great granddaughters, Hazel and Hannah, of Maine and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
