Obituary of Ralph Gildroy Jr
Ralph James Gildroy, Jr., 97, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. He is survived by his son, Wayne Gildroy; daughter, Laura Davis; son-in-law, Roger Davis; grandson Matthew and wife Ashley; and granddaughter Emily and her boyfriend Austin. He was born in Kleenburn, Wyoming on January 9, 1921, and later moved to Montana where his family started the Gildroy Coal Company. Ralph graduated from Klein High School and received a degree in Music and Education at the University of Montana. He went on to serve as a Naval officer in WWII on the USS Koiner. After the war, he earned his Master’s in Music at the University of Cincinnati. He met his wife, Lorraine Emmes (deceased) while both were members of the Clyde Trask Orchestra in the Cincinnati area. The couple returned to Montana where they started a family. Ralph held a diverse assortment of jobs including choir director, Spanish teacher, and principal at Roundup High School; pianist of a popular local jazz trio; County Commissioner of Musselshell County; Rural Development Coordinator for Concerted Services; and Executive Director of Montana Health Systems Agency. He retired to Knoxville, TN, and later DeLand, FL, to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Ralph was a lifelong lover of music, animals, and his family, who will miss him dearly. On Tuesday, August 28th from 6 to 8 pm friends and neighbors are welcomed to stop by Lankford Funeral Home to say their goodbyes.
