Donald J Rapp, 87, went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2020.
Don was born January 31, 1933 to Irvin and Glenna (Filbrun) Rapp in Dayton, Ohio. Don graduated from Otterbein College, Westerville, OH where he met his wife, Pat. They married on December 27, 1955. After Otterbein, Don went on to earn his law degree from Ohio State University and was a member of the Ohio Bar Association.
After serving as an attorney at several law firms, Don served most of his career as a trust officer at a Dayton bank. From there Don served as a legal magistrate for Montgomery County (Ohio).
His post-retirement jobs included serving as a Skycap at Dayton International Airport, and volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio and Bert Fish Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
Don and Pat moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida in 2006 to escape the harsh Ohio winters and to be near their younger daughter's family. Don spent his last two years at Florida Lutheran Good Samaritan Society where Pat currently resides.
Don was very involved with the Kiwanis Club. He and Pat attended church faithfully where they served on many committees and where Don eagerly participated in church dramas. Don enjoyed writing and reading poetry. He loved taking walks and eating donuts. He loved sports and was a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds. He also loved to tell jokes - good and bad! Don was a jolly soul who brought energy to a room and smiles to everyone's faces.
He is survived by Pat, his wife of 64 years; younger brother Ed; 3 children, Linda, Tom, Mary Ann and their spouses; 6 grandchildren whom he adored and also nieces, nephews, cousins and one uncle.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being made by Lankford Funeral Home in Deland, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian relief organization (www.samaritanspurse.org), and Florida Lutheran Good Samaritan Society (www.good-sam.com/locations/florida-lutheran).
