Marjorie Irene Leonard

Marjorie Irene Leonard was born September 13, 1924 in Syracuse, NY to Ford K. and Minnie White (Genter).  She was the youngest of four children, David White, Floris White and Florence Geib, all deceased.  Marjorie met and married her husband of 56 years, Arthur H. Leonard, Jr. in Florida at the end of WWII; they married on September 4, 1945.  The marriage took place at St. Anthony’s Church, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  Marjorie and Arthur raised their 3 children, Arthur H. Leonard, III (Lori), James M. Leonard (deceased) and Sister Patricia Leonard, OP in the Miami area.  After her husband’s retirement from the Miami Beach Police Dept. they resided for several years in Big Pine Key, Florida.  In the early 70’s they moved to north Florida, and settled in DeLand.  Marjorie’s husband  passed away in 2001.  Marjorie was an avid and creative artist, seamstress, needle pointer, and quilter.  She belonged to quilting groups in DeLand.  Marjorie was always an animal lover, having raised several dogs and cats, her last cat, Georgie, was a faithful companion.  She assisted Jan Potter by offering her home as a respite space for cats recovering from being spade/neutered and/or needing a place to shelter prior to being adopted.  In October 2019 a fall necessitated that Marjorie receive extended care; she became a resident of Woodland Towers in November, 2019.  Besides her two children, Marjorie is survived by 2 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.  She is also survived by her nephews, including Andrew I. Watson(Gail), Kevin Leonard(Kimberly) and Robert Wright and Charlie Wright.

Marjorie’s wishes were that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Halifax Humane Society (2364 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32124); the Sisters of St. Joseph(241 St. George St., St. Augustine, FL. 32084, or to the Adrian Dominican Sisters(1257 E. Siena Heights Dr., Adrian, MI 49221).

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, a memorial service celebrating Marge’s life will be planned for a later date.

Services have been entrusted to Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand, FL.
