Wilda June Westervelt, aged 94, passed away on November 20, 2024, in Ocala, FL. Born on April 13, 1930, Wilda devoted her life to her family and her faith, consistently placing them at the forefront of her priorities.
Wilda and her husband Richard were married in 1949 in Springfield, MA and moved to DeLand in 1952. They both immediately became involved in the community and that commitment lasted until their death. They were true ambassadors for the City of DeLand.
Professionally, Wilda served as an Administrative Specialist at DeLand High School for 20 years, where she touched the lives of many staff and students with her dedication and kindness.
Wilda was a cherished member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in DeLand for 72 years. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and Bible School for many years. She was active volunteer in the church office as well as a dedicated member in the United Methodist Women’s group. Her commitment to her church community was profound and unwavering.
Her hobbies included traveling, supporting Stetson University’s baseball and basketball teams, and participating in local church activities, all of which brought her much joy and fulfillment. For many years Wilda was a dedicated member of the West Volusia Hospital auxiliary.
Wilda is survived by her sons, Andy (Pam) Westervelt and John (Vicki) Westervelt; sister, Mary Lou Black; grandchildren, Chris (Katie) Westervelt, Sarah Westervelt, and Alex (Quiesha) Westervelt; and great-great-grandsons, Jack and Joey Westervelt. She was preceded in death by her parents' Joseph E. & Dorothy LaFleur Cormier, husband, Richard Westervelt; daughter, Christine Westervelt; and brother, Walter Cormier.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Wilda’s life will be held at Lankford Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday January 4, 2025. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either Stetson University Baseball c/o Stetson University DeLand, Fl. or the Dementia Society of America P.O. Box 600 Doylestown, PA. 18901.
