Wanda Lee Carlen, 97, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, Palm Coast, Florida. She was a resident of Deland for over 20 years.

Wanda was born in Dewar, Oklahoma on April 6, 1927, to Lafe and Elizabeth Alexander. She married James Carlen on June 18, 1949 in Henrietta, Oklahoma. James’ career as an engineer for PPG industries took the family to Ohio, West Virginia, and Illinois, before finally settling in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. After retirement, James and Wanda lived in South Carolina and Florida. James preceded her in death in 2008.

Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She and James enjoyed playing bridge. Throughout her life, Wanda was a proud and active member of PEO International, DT chapter, a service organization that supports women. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Deland.

Wanda enjoyed doing cross stitch and quilting. She was also an avid fan of college football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by a brother, William Alexander, and a sister, Jean Covert.

Left to cherish her memory are sons, Jonathan, who was her caretaker for the past 10 years, Christopher, and James Jr.  She is also survived by granddaughters Anna Hanulak, and Hannah Carlen, as well as great grandson, James Peter Hanulak.

Visitation will be held on Saturday June 1, 2024 at 1:00pm, with service following at 2:00pm. Entombment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, Deland, with her beloved husband James. Services are under the direction of:
