Thomas R. Baldauff, Sr., 86, of DeLand passed away on October 30, 2021.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 8, at St. Peter Catholic Church in DeLand.
Tom was born on June 14, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his daughter, Roberta B. Ashton (Steven); two sons, Regis Baldauff (Mary) and Ryan Baldauff (Joyce); siblings James D. Baldauff (Pat); Jean Cicero (Richard); and Mary Ellen Galloway (Edward), and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Regis H. Baldauff; mother, Elsie M. Baldauff; sisters Rose Marie Baldauff and Joan Burry, and former spouse Patricia L. Baldauff.
Tom moved to DeLand in 1951 when his parents decided to leave Pittsburgh make Florida their forever home. After graduating from DeLand High School in 1953, Tom furthered his education at the University of Florida as a student in the College of Architecture. He was the President of the UF chapter of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Tom later served in the US Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant while stationed at Ft. Myer, Virginia in support of the staff serving Arlington National Cemetery.
Tom spent over 25 years in the commercial roofing industry in northeast and central Florida. He was also involved with local and state construction associations where he held positions on committees and Boards of Directors dealing with legislation and regulatory policies in the commercial roofing and construction profession.
Tom enjoyed working during his retirement years at the Junque Exchange and later at Somewhere In Time Consignments on the Boulevard in downtown DeLand. He always had a passion for antiques and furniture restoration. Many pieces of furniture were brought back to their original beauty by his craftsmanship.
Tom was very social and enjoyed spending time with family and dining out with “The Gang”. He loved sports and followed the Florida Gators, Jacksonville Jaguars, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, and more recently started following the hockey teams of the Penguins and the Lightning. His kindness will be missed by all.
