Steven John Sheffert, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024 with his wife and daughter at his side. Steve was born in Baker, Oregon to John and Jean Reid Sheffert. He graduated from St. Francis Academy and attended college in Mt. Angel, Oregon before joining the Army in 1967. He served time in Germany and then Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge, he went to school to become a respiratory therapist, and then a registered nurse in Tacoma, Washington. He met his future wife Heather in nursing school.

Steve loved the mountains, fishing, riding motorcycles and golfing. He enticed his wife to learn the game and they made many enjoyable trips around the western United States playing lots of courses. In 1993 Steve and Heather moved to Florida and upon retirement settled in Deland in 2017. In his retirement he spent time woodworking and enjoyed traveling around Florida visiting all the beaches and parks. Steve loved dogs and had many over the years. His favorite was Samantha, a Lhasa apso that was his longest-lived dog and predeceased him last March.

Steve is survived by his wife of 49 years Heather, his daughter Stephanie Barber and son-in-law Derek and the lights of his life his grandchildren Cameryn and Madden. Other survivors include his mother Jean Dawson, Tacoma, Washington; his sisters Marilyn Lentz, Spanaway Washington and Gay Jurgensen, Mt. Angel, Oregon, and a half brother Michael Dawson of Washington; daughter Christina Fitzpatrick and two granddaughters, and son Christopher Sheffert and two grandsons of Maryland as well as many nieces and nephews.

At Steve's request there will be a private service at a future date in Oregon.
