Steven “Doc” Wayne Heaton, 64, of Deltona, Florida passed away at his home on Sunday (May 16th, 2021).


Steve was born in Princeton, Illinois, the son of William and Helen “LaVon” Heaton. On January 21st, 1989, he married Jean Ann Hoener in Sanford, Florida.


Steve graduated from QHS in 1975 and also received a degree at Western Illinois University & Quincy Tech in Automotive Engineering two years later. Steve received the nickname “Doc” while in high school, where he worked as an Athletic Trainer for the Quincy High Football and Basketball teams. Steve worked at TnT Golf Car and Equipment Inc./TnT Speed and Sport Inc. for 16 years, starting as a mechanic and made his way up to Operation Manager.


For 23 years he worked for Yamaha Motor Corporation, starting as an Operation Manager and was promoted up to District Manager, until his retirement in 2018. Steven “Doc” worked hard to achieve success over the years. He was a devoted and loyal family man. He was an avid collector of war memorabilia, coins, and other assorted antiques. Steve loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for his family and friends, watching western and war movies, and socializing with friends.


Survivors are his father, William Heaton of Quincy; a son, Jesse Heaton of Quincy; a step-daughter Kelly Ross of Marietta, GA; a sister, Loretta Hyslop, and husband, Harold, of Quincy; and step-grandchildren, Kennedy and Zepplyn Ross. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Heaton; his mother, Helen Heaton; and his step-daughter, Danyel Hoener.


A memorial will be held Sunday, June 6th, at 1:00 pm at the Foxhead Lounge, 280 North State Rte 415, Osteen, FL 32764. Another service/memorial will be held at a later date in Quincy, Illinois. Interment will be at Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois on a date that is yet to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made to Vermont Street United Methodist Church, 818 Vermont St, Quincy, IL 62301. Memorial Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or West Volusia Humane Society.
