Robert B. Dunmire, Jr., 96, passed away on March 2, 2022, in Orange City, FL.


Robert Dunmire was born on December 17, 1925, in Vandergrift, PA, to Robert Dunmire, Sr.

and Faye Dunmire.


Robert graduated from Apollo High School in Apollo, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of

Science in Chemistry from Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania and graduated from Florida

State University with a Master of Science degree in chemistry. He taught chemistry at Embry

Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, and The Citadel in Charleston, South

Carolina. He was honored with appointment as Professor Emeritus by Embry Riddle.


Robert married Kathryn Carey in Williston, Florida. They were married for 67 years and had

three children: Dana Dunmire, Robert Dunmire, III, and Russell Dunmire.


Among many much-loved family members, Robert is survived by: Kathryn Dunmire; Dana

Dunmire, daughter; Robert Dunmire, son; grandchildren Samantha Dunmire, Alexander

Dunmire, Aaron Dunmire, Russell Dunmire, Amelia Dunmire; and great grandchildren Ocean

Dunmire and Evelyn Dunmire.


Robert is preceded in death by his father, mother, twin brother Raymond Dunmire, brother

Ivan Dunmire, and son Russell Dunmire.


Robert was an advocate of education and learning. He enjoyed travel and the outdoors and

cared deeply about science and the environment. He enjoyed attending Stetson basketball

and baseball games. He will be remembered with love for, among many other things,

coaching his son’s Little League team, building a treehouse with his grandchildren, and being

kind and civil to all he met. He was proud to be a veteran of World War II.


The service for Mr. Robert Dunmire will be held on Monday, April 11 at 11 AM at First

Presbyterian Church, 724 North Woodland Boulevard, Deland, Florida.
