Richard “Salvatore” Maru, 78, of DeLand, FL, passed away on February 28, 2025. Born on August 3, 1946, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of Carl and Theresa Maru.

A passionate entrepreneur and chef, Richard dedicated his life to the culinary arts and food distribution. In 1969, he founded Nature’s Nest Macrobiotic Restaurant in Brooklyn, where he introduced health-conscious dining to the community. In 1974, he expanded his career as a distributor of produce and paper products, serving hotels, Disney establishments, restaurants, schools, and hospitals throughout Florida. He later became the proud owner and chef of Coney Island Restaurant and Pizzeria in Orlando, where he brought the flavors of his heritage to life.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Richard cherished time spent with friends at the Italian Medici Club at Enzo’s on the Lake in Longwood, FL. A devoted collector of vintage Western films and memorabilia, he found joy in preserving pieces of cinematic history.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Caroline, and his adoring Aunt Connie Ruggiero. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Tracey James, as well as his parents, Theresa and Carl Maru.

He loved and cherished his beloved wife, Caroline, and spent 55 inseparable years together. They enjoyed good wine, travel, and followed the Rolling Stones concerts.
