Mickey Russo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 28, 1950, in Connecticut to the late Madeline and George Shabareck. Mickey was one of seven siblings, growing up with Maryann, Caroline, George, Frankie, Charlie, and Suzy.

Mickey dedicated her life to serving others and making a difference in her community. She volunteered with the NJCAA for Women’s Junior College Softball, bringing her passion for sports and mentorship to countless young athletes. Professionally, Mickey was a valued member of the University of Miami Medical School, where she worked in the Human Resources Department, contributing to the growth and success of the institution. She pursued her education at Miami Dade Community College, studying nursing and furthering her commitment to helping those in need.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Mickey found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests. She was an avid crafter, finding solace and creativity in her projects. Mickey cherished spending time with her family above all else, whether it was motorcycle riding with her husband Robert, decorating for the holidays, or simply enjoying the outdoors. Her love for life was evident in her passion for dancing and exploring new destinations through travel.

Mickey is survived by her devoted husband, Robert, and their children Jennifer, Heather, Danielle, and Robert Jr. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in her grandchildren Christina, Jessica, Vanessa, Brian Jr, Kendall, Kendra, Keirra, Sierra, Emmitt, and Sunny, as well as her great-grandchildren Lucas and Gary III.

In the words of Mickey, "The purpose of our lives is to be happy." She lived each day with a contagious smile, reminding us all that life is beautiful and meant to be cherished. Mickey's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Friends and family are invited to honor Mickey's memory at a gathering from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 9th, at Lankford Funeral Home in Deland, FL. A celebration of life with food and drinks will immediately follow at Sparrow's Grille in Victoria Hills.
