Michael Bryan Dye

April 10, 1964 — February 9, 2025

On February 9, 2025, Michael Brian Dye, age 60, was dispatched by God to his Heavenly home after a long battle with a congenital heart defect. Born on April 10, 1964, in Detroit, Michigan, to Robert and Dorothy Dye, Michael became a lifelong resident of DeLand, Florida, after moving there in 1970. He attended Volusia County public schools and was a proud 1983 graduate of DeLand High School.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Jennifer Dye (Adkins), his beloved daughter, Emily Dye of DeLand, Florida, and his adopted son, Davis Dye of Port Orange, Florida. He is also survived by his brother, Christopher Dye of Orange City, Florida, and his loving mother, Dorothy Dye of DeLand.

From 1985 to 2015, Michael dedicated 30 years to law enforcement, serving with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office under four different sheriffs, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He later worked with the United States Marshals Service in Los Angeles, California, where he took part in specialized assignments and traveled worldwide on behalf of federal government missions.

A man of deep faith, Michael was the author of The PeaceKeeper's, a Bible study for law enforcement officers that gained worldwide recognition. He was also a longtime member of the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Michael spent a decade (2014–2024) as a high school criminal justice teacher at University High School in Orange City, Florida. His students affectionately called him “Dep Dye,” a nod to his years of service as both a Deputy Sheriff and a Deputy U.S. Marshal.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at First Assembly of DeLand from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by funeral services at 5:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Michael Modica. The church is located at 551 South Kepler Road, DeLand, FL.

Michael’s life was one of service, faith, and dedication to his family, community, and country. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of integrity, mentorship, and unwavering faith in God.
