It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Joseph D’Amato, 71 years old, who passed away peacefully on the morning of March 10, 2025. Born on November 25, 1953, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Michael grew up in Stratford, CT, before relocating to Deland, Florida in 1989.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Eugenia D’Amato; his two daughters, Jeanie and Heather; and his cherished grandchildren, Ashlyn and Carlie. He was a proud member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
After graduating high school, Michael proudly served in the National Guard as a mechanic, marking the start of a lifelong passion for mechanics. He worked as a mechanic for the City of Fairfield, CT, the City of Deland, FL, and later for the State of Florida Department of Transportation, where his hard work and dedication left a lasting impact.
In his free time, Michael enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including gardening and collecting comic books. He was a passionate New York Giants fan and Nascar enthusiast. Above all, Michael adored his grandchildren. He loved to spend time with them, playing chess and building Legos, creating lasting memories of joy and laughter. Known for his storytelling, he had a gift for making others smile and sharing tales that left everyone in stitches.
The funeral for Michael took place at Oakdale Cemetery in Deland, Florida, on Thursday, March 12, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the COPD Foundation or the American Lung Association in Michael’s memory.
