Melissa Lynn Luman, 47, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2024, in DeLand, Florida. Born on March 12, 1977, in Derby, Connecticut, Melissa’s life was filled with love, family, and a passion for caring for others.
Melissa was a proud Wife to her beloved husband Kurt R. Luman, Jr., who were together for over 29 year, and proud mother to her beloved twin daughters, Kaitlyn and Brooke, who were the light of her life. She cherished watching them grow and shine on the softball field and supported them in every way possible.
She is survived by her parents, Normand and Maria Audet (Gibej), her brother Nick Audet (wife Tamara and nephew Austin), and her sister Michelle Martell (husband Aaron and their children Lexie, Lily, and Lucas). Melissa is also survived by her mother-in-law, Angela Luman, father-in-law, Kurt Luman, Sr., sister-in-law Amy Longstreet (husband Wayne and their children Addison and Brayden), and brother-in-law Derek Luman (wife Abby and their children Alise, Cecelia, Eloise, and Grady).
Melissa was a proud graduate of DeLand High School, class of 1995, and went on to earn her associate degree from Daytona Beach Community College in 1997. She pursued her passion for nursing at the University of Central Florida, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1999. For 25 years, Melissa worked as a Registered Nurse, specializing in orthopedics at Orlando Health. Her dedication to her patients and commitment to the nursing profession earned her the designation of Orthopedic Nurse Certified (ONC), a reflection of her expertise and compassion in her field.
Melissa had a love for life and embraced every moment with joy. She loved traveling, glamping, cooking, and decorating her home for every season and holiday. Family gatherings, shopping trips, and beach days were some of her favorite pastimes. A devoted sports fan, Melissa could always be found cheering for her teams, especially the UCF Knights and the Miami Hurricanes. She found her greatest happiness in spending time with her family, creating unforgettable memories, and watching her daughters pursue their passions.
Melissa's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
A celebration of Melissa’s life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand, FL. The family will receive guests during a greeting hour from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a memorial service following at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in her honor.
