Mary J. Swiderski, 65, of DeLand, FL passed away suddenly on October 11, 2021, with her family by her side.


Born in Ft. Campbell, KY, she was the daughter of Navy Captain Frank and Martha Johnson.


She met the love of her life Paul Swiderski in Winter Haven Florida and married in 1984. Mary and Paul moved back to DeLand to be closer to her family in 1990. They celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on October 6th. Mary attended Stetson University and received her degree in Political Science that would lead her to her civil duties as a Deland City Commissioner. She also worked as a Lobbyist for the County of Volusia, and as a substitute teacher for Volusia County Schools and remained active while sitting on the smart growth counsel of Volusia County as well as the DeLand Mural Committee.


For her hobbies, Mary was an accomplished artist in mixed medias and wood working, including making furniture.


She leaves to cherish the memories her husband, Paul; children, Kate and John; grandchildren Emma and Ashtyn; sisters, Diana (Ron) Santos, Valarie (Doug) Andrews; nieces, Kim Hutto, Rachelle Barnard, Stacey Andrews and many others.


Services for Mary will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church on Saturday October 16th at 1:30 PM.


In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia.
