Marilyn Jeanne (Gettemy) Maliskas (95) died peacefully on May 19th, 2021, and passed immediately into the everlasting arms of her loving and beloved Savior, Jesus Christ.

Marilyn was born in Monmouth, Illinois, on May 14th, 1926, to Noel Gettemy and Sarah (Kneen) Gettemy. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944 and attended college for several years at what is now Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. She married Edward G. Maliskas in 1947. They moved soon thereafter to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. During their years there, the couple had an astounding number of good friends while maintaining cherished relationships with extended family. Marilyn was involved in a number of civic organizations, including providing help to the needy through “Meals on Wheels” and reading course material to blind students at the University of Illinois.

They moved to Florida in 1975 where she owned and managed “Living Way Bible Bookstore” in Homestead for twenty years. The couple retired to the Alliance Community in DeLand in 2008 where Marilyn’s upbringing as an independent “country girl” perhaps contributed to the vigor she displayed in various hospitality-filled relationships and ministries until her recent decline.

She was predeceased by her husband, mother and father, brother John W. Gettemy, and daughter Teresa Anderson. Survivors include children Ed (Judi) Maliskas, Mary Carroll, Mike (Ellen) Maliskas, Joe (Kim) Maliskas, and son-in-law Eric Anderson; beloved grandchildren Micah (Kathryn) Maliskas, Joel (Kate) Maliskas, Constance (Jerry) Lawson, Mary (Trevor) Gibbons, Aaron (Elizabeth) Anderson, Emily (Joseph) Aragon, Aiden (Tara) Anderson, Ben (Callie) Maliskas, and Andy (Amy) Maliskas; twenty-four great-children; and dear late-life friend Gordon Larson.

The public is invited to a Memorial Service in her honor, which will be held on Monday, May 24th, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at the Alliance Chapel located at 135 W. Armstrong Street, DeLand, FL.
