November 26th, 2021
Lois Ruth McIlrath Nabors went home to be with Jesus on November 26, 2021 at 94 years of age. She had not been ill before her departure. She spent 18 years as a resident in the Alliance Community Retirement Center in Deland, Fl.
Lois was born July 29, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Later the family moved to New Castle, Pa. where she graduated from Shenango High School in 1945. Lois received the Lord as a young girl. She worked for a few years at Kroger and then went to Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Ga. There she met the love of her life, Bill Nabors from Chattanooga, Tn.
They were married on June 4, 1951, the very day they both graduated. Rev. Gustave Woerner, an Alliance Missionary from Indonesia performed the ceremony. They honeymooned at their first church in Oneonta, Al. After serving this church, they left for Thailand as missionaries where they had 7 fruitful years.
Due to Bill’s health, they returned to the states and served in several pastorates. In their Delray Beach pastorate, they met a small girl, Judy Gaskin, who they lead to the Lord and became like an adopted daughter to them and stayed in touch with them faithfully. After their last pastorate in Chattanooga, Tn., Bill become District Superintendent of the Alliance Southern District, a position he held for 15 years. The Nabors were always a team and when he retired from District Superintendent they planted a new church, North River Alliance Church in Chattanooga, Tn. They moved to the Alliance Community Retirement Center in 2003 upon full retirement. After the death of her husband, Bill, she served several years as President of the Women’s Missionary Fellowship at the Alliance Community Retirement Center.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, her parents, Charles & Irene McIlrath and siblings, Dorothy Kalajainen, Rev. Howard McIlrath, Robert E. McIlrath and William F. McIlrath. She is survived by her only living sibling, Boonie Ford Nable.
She will be greatly missed as a prayer warrior for all who knew her.
