Lillian Caroline Miller

10/5/2023

Lillian Caroline Miller was born on August 14, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY, to Theodore Gebhardt and Lillian Hauptmann. Lillian was the eldest of five siblings, with three sisters and one brother. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School. She was a devoted Catholic, and her faith carried her through her life.

Lillian worked for the New York Stock Exchange and traveled to Manhattan by train.

Lillian met her future husband Russell T. Miller at the bachelor party for her future brother-in-law Jerry. In October of 1957, Lillian and Russell wed at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Brooklyn, NY. Two years later they welcomed a son, Steven Russell Miller, to their family. Shortly thereafter they bought a house in Ozone Park, Queens, NY. Several years later, they were blessed with a daughter, Lynn Ann.

Lillian was a kind loving mother, and she made her house a warm home for her family. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family at picnics, get-togethers, family reunions, and boat trips.

Lillian had many talents and hobbies that she enjoyed throughout her life: bowling; playing cards; cooking; baking; and gardening. She had the best and biggest tomatoes on the block.

As her children grew older, she worked as a crossing guard for the NY Police Department and took great pride in keeping her St. Mary Gate of Heaven school children safe each day.

Later in their lives, Lillian and Russell enjoyed traveling with Ethel and Donald where they had many adventures, lots of laughs, and fun times. They eventually decided to move to Florida. Lillian enjoyed the sunshine, made new friends, played bingo, and joined the local garden club. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family and friends who visited often. Many years of wonderful times, more traveling, more fun, and laughter.

The biggest blessing of her retirement years was the birth of her only grandchild, Emily Barbara. Emily filled the last 24 years of her life with much joy and many proud milestones.

Lillian is survived by her husband of 65 years, Russell T. Miller, son Steven Miller, daughter Lynn (Gregory) Gula, and granddaughter Emily Gula. She will also be missed by her sisters, Joan Heege, Mary Catalano, and Theresa LoRusso, and brother-in-law Donald Boss Sr. She was loved and adored by her godchildren, many nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends, who will all miss her as well.

Lillian is preceded in death by Theodore and Lillian Gebhardt, and brother Theodore (Teddy) Gebhardt.

Lillian was called to the Lord on October 5th, 2023, after a decline in health. She died quietly and peacefully according to her wishes, while holding her daughter's hand.
