Leia Brooke Vondrick

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Leia Brooke Vondrick, who passed away on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025, at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital at the age of 6. Leia was born on October 15th, 2018, in Daytona Beach, FL, to her loving parents, Jason and Laura Vondrick.

Leia's life was marked by her incredible strength and resilience. Diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder and chronic kidney disease at an early age, Leia faced numerous challenges throughout her young life. Her journey took a positive turn when she was fortunate enough to receive a kidney transplant on March 17th, 2024, which allowed her to continue to embrace life with joy and laughter.

Leia had a zest for life that was undeniable. She loved attending school and had a deep appreciation for all types of music. She could name specific artists and songs on the radio with remarkable accuracy. A true fan of cartoons, Leia memorized many episodes, and her playful spirit shone through as she watched her favorite shows. Despite the many toys she had, Leia found joy in simple things—medicine syringes, tape dispensers, packs of batteries, sugar packets, and water bottles. Anything that made noise was her delight. Leia also had a special bond with her brother, Jake, who often read to her, bringing her comfort and happiness.

Leia's infectious personality left an impact on everyone she met. Known for her matter-of-fact approach, she often surprised people with her humor. Her recent comeback was “You got that right!” If she didn’t enjoy a song, she would express her feelings by saying “You’re annoying!” or “Don’t sing!” And when ending a phone call, she would always sign off with “I love you” or “Smoochies!” She made those around her laugh and brightened their days with her candid wit.

Leia is survived by her father Jason, mother Laura, and her brother Jake. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandmother, Connie Gerrick; her grandfather, Mark Jankovich; her grandfather, Robert Vondrick; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from both sides of her family.

A memorial service to honor Leia's life will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 4:00PM at Lankford Funeral Home in Deland. All those who knew Leia are invited to join the family in this special time of remembrance.
