Kimberly James Forstrom of Jacksonville passed away peacefully Sunday November 28, 2021, following complications from surgery at Baptist Medical Center – South.
Kim was born April 11, 1965, in DeLand, Florida to Ellen Cain Price and the late Henry I. Price. She attended local schools and graduated from DeLand High School in 1983. She attended Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina where she studied Health Sciences. She later earned a degree in nursing from Daytona Beach Community College. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Florida Hospital DeLand in the Intensive Care Unit and as a case manager. She made an impact and was loved and appreciated by those who worked with her. Her passion and dedication to nursing and caring for people was reflected throughout her nursing career.
Widely known as a valuable resource to groups and organizations, Kim served as the founding President of the Sunflower Garden Circle of the DeLand Garden Club. She was a member of the Krewe of Amalee and co-chaired the popular Mardi Gras on Mainstreet Dog Parade.
While living in Statesboro, Georgia, she met and married her husband Jonathon (Jack) Forstrom on November 22, 2015. Once again, she became active in the community as a Rotary wife and hosted a student from Denmark through the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. She and Jack organized a Rotary backpack distribution project for local children. She volunteered and served on the board of the food bank in Statesboro. Kim chaired a Thanksgiving dinner project called “Feed the Boro” which served 3,000 people.
When not busy with service projects, Kim enjoyed antiquing, painting, remodeling, wallpapering, gardening, cooking, and auctions.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jonathon (Jack) Forstrom, her children, Brooke Wesley (Kendall), John Richard Vick, her mother, Ellen Cain James, her father, Gregory S. James, and her siblings, Jeffrey S. James of Longwood, Florida, Ryan G. James (Amy) of DeLand, Florida, and Kathlyn Apostolos (Iain) of Daytona Beach, Florida. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, close cousins, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, December 9th, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Lankford Funeral home with a reception to follow at the home of Ellen James.
The family requests memorials be made to a fund which has been created in Kim’s honor through AdventHealth DeLand for Nursing Excellence which will provide scholarships and educational programs for nurses.
