Kathleen Nan Hicks passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 3, 2023. She was born February 17, 1947, in Providence, RI to the late Albert and Margaret (Jones) Bacon. She grew up in Providence and in 1978 was selected for the 46th recruitment class of the Providence Police Department. She was proud to be the first female motorcycle officer for Providence. She considered working Thurbers Ave. curve accidents and parade crowd control her specialty.

She retired in 1996 and moved to DeLand, Florida to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. Kathy enjoyed watching tennis, traveling, bingo, casinos, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by those who loved her for always driving like she was in a police cruiser on a call (even though it was her Camry leaving the school pick up line), her “Hey, girlfriend!” greeting in a voice usually too loud for the occasion, and correctly singing most of the lyrics to Mo-town songs.

She is survived by her daughter Kelly Crump (Steve) of DeLeon Springs, FL, brother Thomas Bacon of Cranston, RI, sister Nancy Pontarelli of Vero Beach, FL and her most cherished grandchildren Courtney, Erin, Ethan and Ryan. She was preceded in death by brothers Albert, Harry, Robert, James, John Bacon and sisters Margaret Iannone and Patricia Dawson.

Arrangements will be handled by Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand FL and services will be private. Those who wish to honor her memory may donate to the St. Mary’s Academy- Bay View Sister Diane Taylor Endowment 3070 Pawtucket Ave, Riverside RI 02915. https://www.bayviewacademy.org/support-bay-view/endowments or to the Congregation of Notre Dame Mission Advancement Sacred Heart University 3135 Easton Tpk Fairfield CT 06825.
