John Henry Simmons “Murphy” 77, of DeLand, passed away peacefully in Altamonte Springs, Florida on Monday, September 6, 2021 and was a longtime resident of DeLand, Florida.

John worked as a commercial fisherman and later was a long time heavy equipment operator who enjoyed fishing and a good cold beer.

John is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Charla L. Simmons; children Bobby Skeel (Libby) and Scott Skeel. Grandchildren Misty Weiss, Bobbie Skeel, Jessie Arocha, CJ Skeel, Sky Marchese and Haley Miller as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Siblings Lorraine Mackey, Mary Francis, Barbara Simmons and Roger Simmons (Karen) as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Edward Simmons and Bertha Ann Simmons. Siblings Josephine Weeks, Lillian Roseberry, Marie Merritt, Joseph Simmons and Bobby Simmons. Granddaughter Bethany Jayne Miller. Son Lloyd Alan Skeel and Daughter Jonna Beth Miller.

Funeral Services will be Monday, September 20, 2021 at Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand, Florida. Viewing will be 10:00AM to 11:00AM with services directly after. Followed by a graveside service at Oakdale Cemetery, DeLand, Florida.
