A longtime resident of DeLand, Florida, Donald "Jack" Duncan, age 83, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Jack graduated in 1961 from Stetson University where he was a Pi Kappa Phi. He received a Master's Degree in Teaching from Rollins College in 1966. Jack was an avid golfer, a history buff, loved to travel with friends and family, and enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams: The St. Louis Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, and Stetson Hatters.


Jack was a devoted educator for 30 years. He taught history and math while coaching football and baseball at several local schools. He was Principal of Deltona Junior High and later went on to work at the Central Office of Volusia County Schools and retired in 1991.


He met the love of his life, Marjorie Pearson, while working at the Nibble Nook Ice Cream Shop at Ridgecrest Conference Center in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Jack and Margie were married for 62 years. He is also survived by his three children: Debbie Jerrett, Brad Duncan, and Brian Duncan; 6 grandchildren: Duncan Jerrett, Austin Duncan, Jordan Duncan, Jackson Jerrett, Garth Duncan and Marjorie "Maggie" Duncan as well as two great-grandchildren: Emerson Jerrett and Eisley Jerrett.


He was a member of First Baptist Church of DeLand for many years and an integral participant in the start of New Covenant Baptist Church. Jack could often be found in the stands at Melching Field supporting the Hatters and correcting the umpires. He was a beloved father, grandfather, friend and husband. He will be dearly missed by all. Services to celebrate Jack's life will be Tuesday, August 23rd, at New Covenant Baptist Church, 1350 South Blue Lake Avenue, DeLand at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to New Covenant Baptist Church at the above address.
