Hazel Ruby Shultz Emmons, 97 years young, gained her wings April 4, 2023, at Alliance Assisted Living, DeLand, Florida. She was born November 16, 1925, in the Terrace Park, Ohio area. She was the youngest of five children born to William Joseph and Minnie Alice Shultz. Her parents and siblings, Raymond Keefer (1911), Clifford Paul (1913), Helen Ruth Shultz Hutchinson (1916), and Robert Gerald (1919) pre-deceased her.


She married the Love of her Life, Freddie Leroy Emmons (1921) on January 24, 1941. They were married sixty-six years until his passing January 30, 2007. They were farmers in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Hazel also retired from the US Post Office in Cincinnati. After retirement, they sold the farm, moved to Crescent City, Florida, and lived on Lake Crescent. In 2002, they moved to Alliance Retirement Community in DeLand, Florida.


They had two children, Juanita Pauline Emmons Escobar Wilson (1942) and Karl Freddie Emmons (1944). They have six grandchildren, Jacqueline Escobar, Carlisa Escobar Waldman, Carlos Escobar, Karl Emmons, David Emmons and Dorothy Emmons Negrete, nineteen great grandchildren and twelve great, great grandchildren. In addition, she had numerous nieces and nephews including special nieces Margaret Boliske, Lois Hutchison, Lynn Duncan Hudson, her care taker, Amy Roudebush Coughlin and Michelle Tilghman Wentworth.


Per her request, there will be no service. Her ashes will be co-mingled with the ashes of her beloved husband and all sprinkled on Lake Crescent, Crescent City, Florida, at a later date. Lankford Funeral Home assisted.
