Gene C. Smith, 78, passed away October 8, 2021 after a long illness. Gene was born July 27, 1943 in Brewton, AL but lived most of his life in Brockton, MA and in FL. He served 3 proud years in the US Army, stationed in Germany. He retired from a long, successful career as an engineer in the Aerospace Industry, with his longest service being at Lockheed Martin in Orlando, FL.

Gene was a man of many hats. He would say he was just a “putterer” but his puttering involved woodworking, electrical, lighting, landscaping, and turning his 100-year-old home that he shared with his wife Debbi into a unique treasure. Gene was an incredibly generous man, always looking to give, to help, and never wanting anything in return.

Gene is survived by his wife of 17 years, Debbi, his two sons, Mark and Richard, his three step daughters, Tami, Mindy, and Megan, and many, many grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on November 5 at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 East New York Ave, Deland, FL. All are welcome to join us at an informal gathering to celebrate his life afterward at 200 Shady Branch Trail, Deland, FL 32724.
