Frank Blackwood Dougherty, 84, a cherished and longtime resident of DeLand, passed away on August 4, 2023, after a lengthy illness. He was a beloved figure in the community, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and dedication. His journey began at DeLand High School, where he not only excelled academically but also left an indelible mark on the basketball court as a star player. His tenacity and sportsmanship set an example for generations to come.

Professionally, Frank pursued a successful career as a Senior Vice President for various banks, where he specialized in commercial lending. His expertise was instrumental in assisting businesses and communities to thrive, and he extended his impact even further through his involvement in Disaster Recovery efforts. Frank played a crucial role in securing Federal Disaster Loans, aiding the recovery of countless individuals and families in their darkest hours.

Beyond his professional achievements, Frank was a man of many talents and passions. He shared his knowledge and love for learning by becoming a substitute teacher across all grade levels, positively impacting the lives of countless students. His dedication extended to the basketball court, where he embraced his role as a Youth Basketball Coach, inspiring young athletes to reach their full potential.

Frank's commitment to community service was evident through his years of service with the DeLand Kiwanis Club and active participation as Vice Chairman of the Volusia County Housing Authority Board. His influence on housing and community development left an enduring imprint on the region. Additionally, his unwavering faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he found solace and purpose through his involvement at St. Peter Catholic Church, where he also served as a Coach and mentor.

Outside of his professional and community endeavors, Frank enjoyed pursuing his hobbies and spending quality time with loved ones. He found joy on the golf course, immersed himself in literature, and engaged in passionate discussions about politics and sports. Frank and his beloved wife of 30 years, Kathy, shared a deep bond and created cherished memories during their trips to St. Augustine and early morning golf outings. Frank's devotion to family was unparalleled. He leaves behind his loving wife, Kathy, children: Frank (Rosalie), Patrick (Wendy) and Jennifer; stepchildren: Laura Domingus, Brian (Lilibeth) Panton, and Jason (Ashley) Panton; along with 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Frank's life will take place on August 26, 2023, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the DeLand Elks Club. His final resting place will be in Glenwood Cemetery, a peaceful spot that reflects the tranquility and grace he brought to those around him.

Frank B. Dougherty's legacy will forever illuminate the path of kindness, leadership, and community service for all who were fortunate enough to know him.
