Dwayne Douglas Fisher
01/14/2022
Dwayne Douglas Fisher was born December 9, 1968, in Waycross, Georgia to Douglas and Sylvia Fisher. His family moved to DeLand in 1980 and opened the beloved Pondo's Restaurant in the same year. He attended DeLand High School where he played trombone in the band and graduated with the Class of 1986.
Dwayne worked in hospitality at theme parks, resorts and restaurants, including Orlando's Walt Disney World, Chetola resort in the mountains of North Carolina, and the Flagg Ranch Resort in Wyoming. For the last fifteen years, he was employed as a server at The Best Cellar Restaurant in North Carolina.
He would work to travel. Each year he would give himself goals of where to travel and what to see. Dwayne would then spend the following months working hard to save up the money for his next big adventure! His love of travel led him around the country and the world. He especially loved working in Alaska and Utah and visiting New Zealand and Russia. Following his sister's death, and through the Patch Adams Clowning and Caring workshop, Dwayne went to Costa Rica to heal his heart and honor her memory.
Dwayne left a great impression on everyone he met from the day of his birth to the time of his death and beyond. He was known as Kemosabe to his dad and Fish to his friends. The statement "he never met a stranger" has never applied to someone as much as it did Dwayne. There are just not enough words to describe his outgoing nature and infectious smile. At the least, he will be remembered as fun-loving, kindhearted, and adventurous.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his sister, Alison Williams, and his father, Douglas Fisher. He is survived by his mother, Sylvia Fisher, and his nephews, Brandon Williams and Dylan Williams.
Services will be held in the chapel at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to dress "Dwayne-style" in fun, bright clothes. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Outdoor Adventure Foundation (outdooradventurefoundation.org).
