Dennis John Matteoni, 64, of DeLand, Florida died on May 12, 2024 at Advent Health Orlando after a recent diagnosis of stomach cancer.
Dennis was born in Queens, NY on July 1, 1959, to Licia and Hugo Matteoni. He had a wonderful childhood growing up in Jackson Heights with sisters Donna and Lisa. Dennis delighted in sharing tales of large family gatherings, vacations to upstate New York, and the trip to Italy when at nine years old, he inadvertently scared his family by getting lost.
Dennis graduated from Monsignor Scanlan High School in the Bronx in 1977 and worked at the Airport Deli where he met longtime best friend Bill Tompkins. Following several visits to Walt Disney World, Dennis decided this was where he wanted to be and moved to Orlando in 1984. Dennis began his Disney adventure as a Jungle Cruise captain where his sense of humor and kind outgoing personality were a perfect fit. Later, after transferring to the Diamond Horseshoe Review, Dennis found the love of his life, Angie Hunter, and they married in 1987.
Dennis and Angie couldn’t wait to start a family of their own and welcomed Melody, their only daughter, and sons Anthony, Joey Michael, and Kyle. A devoted family man, Dennis cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren, eagerly looking forward to spending more time with them in retirement.
For the last 24 years, Dennis was an over the road truck driver for Roehl Transport of Marshfield, Wisconsin. He was nominated for the driver of the year award numerous times, winning in 2023.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father Hugo Matteoni and son Anthony Matteoni.
