David Schenck Rauschenberger, M.D. passed away the evening of May 25th, 2021 at his home in Orange City. He was 88 years old. He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-seven years JoAnne, sister Mary Alice Kothe, daughter Dana Powers and her husband Rich, son David and his wife Terri, grandchildren Richard Powers and his wife Hannah, Jesse DiPreta and her husband Anthony, Caitlin McConnell and her husband Jay, and David Schenck Rauschenberger II. Dr. Rauschenberger was blessed to enjoy the birth of his only great-grandchild Alice Powers just weeks before his passing.

Dr. Rauschenberger had many nieces and nephews. His brother-in-law Robert Kothe (deceased) and brother-in-law retired Chief Master Sergeant A.O. Brown was also very dear to him.

Dr. Rauschenberger was born in Butler Pennsylvania in 1932 to parents John and Alfreda Rauschenberger. He had five brothers and two sisters, all of whom passed before him.

He graduated from Butler High School as valedictorian in 1950. He then earned his undergraduate degree from Capital University in Columbus Ohio in 1954 where he proudly sang in the traveling choir as the first tenor. From there, he attended medical school at The University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1958.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served from 1959 to 1962. He was stationed in Korea just after the war had ended.

Dr. Rauschenberger and JoAnne then moved to Orange City and opened his medical practice in his office on May Street in 1962. He practiced medicine for fifty years. During that time he was Chief of Staff at both Fish Memorial Hospital and West Volusia Hospital. He was a member of the Bert Fish Testamentary Trust and the DeLand Medical Foundation (owners of Fish Memorial Hospital in the nineteen eighties). He was also on the board at John Knox Village for many years.

He and JoAnne have been members of Emmaus Lutheran Church in Orange City since 1994. He was an active member of the choir there until just a few years ago. His family loved to hear his beautiful singing voice.

Dr. Rauschenberger loved and cherished God, his family, friends, and patients. He missed his patients and his practice all the years of his retirement. He loved crossword puzzles, projects big and small around the house, and read hundreds of books, but his retirement was most enriched by his beloved wife, family, and friends.
