David Samuel Schoonover, 84, died April 20th at a Care Facility in Ormond Beach FL. His funeral services will be held at Lankford Funeral Homes in Deland FL on May 1st, followed by a procession to Pinehurst Cemetery for the burial service.

Mr. Schoonover was born on April 15th, 1937 in Sayre Pennsylvania to Thelma and Charles Schoonover. Being the second oldest in the Schoonover family, his siblings were Adrian, Jerry, Jan, and Roberta. As an adolescent, he spent time around Glens Falls, New York as a firefighter and always had a service-oriented mind. Finding his way to FL in his teenage years, he came across a striking young lass by the name of Bobbie Jean Taylor.

After a 4-year pursuit, he became successful in seeking her hand in marriage. They had two children together, Sam and Mike Schoonover. Dave and Bobbie Jean stayed happily married and deeply in love for over 60 wonderful yrs. He was employed by Florida Transformer in Deleon Springs prior to joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1960.

David was an avionics electrician and served multiple tours overseas. Over his 20 year military career, he also spent time working for the fire department in Cape Carteret NC, and Burton SC. Following his career in the Marines, he came back home to Deleon Springs, raised his family, and worked at RAF Technologies. Again, in his spare time serving his community thru the Deleon Springs Fire Dept.

Later, retiring his work from RAF he continued firefighting for years to come. Upon his retirement from the fire service, he had totaled 33yrs with Volusia County Fire Services. In his retirement, he and his wife traveled to many places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Iceland, Greenland, the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Costa Rica, and numerous places in the US. David and Bobbie Jean touched many people’s lives, be it thru their travels, work, or community service. Making it difficult, to sum up, a life lived as full as the Adventurer David Schoonover.

He is loved and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean, two sons Sam and Mike, three grandchildren, three great grand grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
