Caroll, ”Dots” as he was known by those who knew and loved him, Erickson, passed away on March 26th, 2022 in Orange City, Florida.

Dots was number 10 of 10 children born to Carl and Martina Erickson. He was born on October 9th, 1929, at a farmhouse near Wolford on the way to the Rugby Hospital.

His childhood was spent in Wolford living on the family farm and attending Wolford Public School. At 18 years old, Dots joined the Navy serving for 4 years where he received training in sheet metal and welding and was ranked first in his class. He often reflected fondly on his years in service and of his travels outside the US.

After the service and working on the family farm for three years, Dots took the skills he learned in the Navy to R&O Contractors where he worked for 31 years. Upon retirement from R&O, Dots worked for Cofell’s Plumbing and Heating in Bismarck for another 6 1/2 years as a plumbing & heating superintendent. He worked side by side with his good friend Paul Lafromboise for most all of his working career.

In 1954 Dots met the love of his life, Virgie Larson, and was married on October 30th, 1955 in the Knox Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Rolette where he and Virgie had 2 daughters, Lynn and Loree.

When Dots wasn’t working and enjoying his family, he could be found riding his motorcycle or woodworking in his shop creating bowls, rolling pins, toys, and more. He built cedar chests for his daughters and many high school graduates, a grandfather clock for his wife, and even a pontoon that he launched on Lake Metigoshe. He also enjoyed golfing at the Rolette and Dunseith Country Clubs with family and friends.

Later in his life, he and Virgie would spend winters in DeLand, Florida where their daughters lived. Though he loved the winter warmth of Florida, he ALWAYS said North Dakota was home.

Dots was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, sisters Edith Haaberstad, Bernice Yoder, Clarissa Roy, brothers Wilhelm(Bill), Norman, Howard, Vernon(Peanuts), infant brothers Clifford and Harris, and son-in-law Mark Thompson. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Virgie, and his adoring daughters, Lynn Erickson Thompson (DeLand, Florida) and Loree Erickson Lemieux (DeLand, Florida), and 2 grandsons Cal Thompson (DeLand, Florida) and Quin Lemieux (New York City).

A memorial service will be held in Rolette this summer for Dots Erickson. The date and time will be announced at a later date.
