Betty Yoder

July 23, 1928 — November 9, 2024

Betty J, affectionately called Muzz, passed away peacefully at home in DeLand, surrounded by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Roman “Pop” Yoder (1997), and her eldest daughter, Mary Brown (2018).

She is survived by 8 children, Roman (Anita) Yoder, Sam (Renee) Yoder, Becky Brown, David (Carol) Yoder, Elaine (Charles) Hasty, Nancy Capparelli, John Yoder, and Teresa Yoder; 24 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and even great-great grandchildren. Over the years Betty bonded with a few young people she called her adopted kids who have always held a special place in her heart.

Born a child of the Great Depression 1928, Betty was thrifty, smart, strong, and resourceful. She always did the best she could, in some mighty tough situations at times too! She worked many jobs in her lifetime from her mom’s custard stand to cosmetology, farming, housekeeping, convenience store clerk, factory worker, bookkeeper, race horse groom, breeder, and owner, and a kitchen manager; she was never fired! She worked hard her whole life, she was tenacious and always “did what she had to do!” She walked fast and with a purpose, especially if someone was supposed to pick her up from Spartan Electronics and they didn’t, and she had to walk home! Always a physical presence even more so on these types of days! She had a magnetic charm that seemed to attract an unusual cast of colorful characters. Fun, funny, and smart she loved being the life of the party. Betty lived most of her young life in Pennsylvania, a short stay in Maryland, then Tallahassee, Florida, and most of her adult life right here in Glenwood, Florida. She and Pop really loved this “airey” (a Muzzerism for area) and raised their 9 children here. The Glenwood Presbyterian Church was a significant part of her life from the early days to the latter. She was loved by many and will be missed always. Rest in peace Muzz.
