Obituary of Ann Anderson
Ann Caroline Vance was born in Brooklyn, New York to Arch C. Vance and Harriet A. Templeton Vance. She grew up in Keystone Heights, FL and graduated from Cuthbert High School in Cuthbert, GA.
From 1953-1957 Ann went to and graduated from the University of Florida. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and remained a lifelong fan of the Gators. After graduation, she moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL where she began her teaching career. In 1959 Ann wanted to see the world so she signed up to teach on a military base in Germany where she met and married Richard (Dick) L. Anderson.
In 1964, Dick returned from Vietnam and was assigned to ROTC duty at Stetson University. Ann began her American History teaching career at DeLand Junior High School as an 8th grade teacher.
Ann was very active in the community and served as PTA President, Little League Mom and score keeper, Cub Scout Den Mother, Swim Team time Keeper, President of the YMCA Board and Treasurer of the High School Athletic Booster Club. She also served as an Advisor for the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at Stetson for their new on campus house. Ann was also an avid traveler returning to Europe with visits to Africa and Central America along with numerous trips to Gator football games in Gainesville.
In 1995, Ann retired from teaching after 30 years and took up her love of antiques. Ann’s Tiques could be seen at Rivertown Marketplace and many other shows across Florida.
Ann is predeceased by her husband, Richard (Dick) Anderson and is survived by her son, Scott Anderson, Daughter in Law Felicia Anderson, grandchildren Marley Ann and Vance, brother C.E. (Spike) Vance and cat, Lovie.
Services will be held at Lankford Funeral Home on January 6, 2018. Viewing 12:00-1:00 with Services 1:00-2:00. A reception will be held at The Grape after 4:30. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a Hospice of your choice in DeLand.
