Obituary of Rupert Hawks
Rupert F. Hawks, 77 of DeLand, FL died on December 3, 2017 with his family by his side.
Rupert and his wife Carol married at Rollins Cathedral in Winter Park, FL on June 19, 1971 and raised three children, Rupert II, Jennifer and Eric. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 2 brothers, Charles and Bill Hawks. Rupert joined the Air Force serving from 1962-1966 receiving an honorable discharge. He owned Sago Landscaping, Inc., Latex Gloves and Medical Supplies and a wholesale and retail nursery. He ended his career as a sales representative for Grove Medical Supplies out of South Carolina. His community involvements led him to serve from 1982-1987 as a director with Florida State Boosters and in 1987 he was inducted into the West Volusia Men’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame. In 1988 he received an honorary alumni award from Florida State. In July 2015 Rupert was featured in the Repertoire Health Magazine for his work in the health industry. For a time he worked on the Stetson Athletic Staff. He enjoyed working and was excellent at what he did. He loved all kinds of sports and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR and eating. He always kept our turkeys, birds, rabbits and squirrels well fed. His family was very important to him and he loved having his grandchildren around him. He was always very involved in all of the children’s activities and sports. He will always be remembered for all the lives he touched. He never held anything back and was a very giving, loving and forgiving person.
Rupert conducted business the old fashion way, he spent time knowing his clients and talking about their family before the sales transaction ever took place. Services will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 10:00AM at St. Peter Catholic Church in DeLand with burial to follow with military honors at DeLand Memorial Gardens.
