Obituary of William "Bill" Harper
William H. Harper, an outstanding member of the DeLand, Florida Community passed away on August 24, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents; Avis and William H. (Charlie) Harper and sons; William H. Harper III and Michael S. Harper. He is survived by his wife; Dolly Harper, children; Laurie Everts (Rick), Britt Reed (Louise), Sherri Garcia (Neal), and Stephanie Slama (Larry), grandchildren; Michael, Sheryl, Lauren, Samantha, Renee, Preston, Linda and 14 great-grandchildren.
Bill grew up in DeLand and graduated from Deland High School in 1956 (Hicks of ’56). He joined the Air Force (because the Navy recruiter was at lunch). When he retired from Western Electric (AT&T), in 1990, he returned to DeLand with his wife Dolly. As past president of the DeLand Country Club and member of the Elks Lodge #1463, he was honored for his many years of community service and received numerous awards including Elk of the Year for 1991-1992.Bill was noted for his devotion and loyalty to his family and friends. He never met a stranger and could always be counted on to lend a hand.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lankford Funeral Home on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11am and will be presided over by DeLand Elks Lodge #1463
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting gifts may be given to DeLand Elks Lodge #1463.
