Obituary of Imogene "Gene" Walker

~~Imogene "Gene" Cannon Walker, 87 of DeLand was called home to Heaven on April 22, 2017. Survivors include: Son, Steven (Cathy) Walker, Daughters, Janet (Randy) Boyer, Kelly Coody, Sisters, Helen Speake and Mildred Whistler, her close family friend, Juanita Mills, 7 Grand Children, 10 Great Grand Children and 5 Great-Great Grand Children and many nieces. She was preceded in death by parents, John and Duskie Cannon, husband, James Walker (married 56 years),sisters, Irene Peterson and Kathleen Broach, daughter, PJ Walker and brothers, Nathaniel, Howard, Russell, Douglas and Jimmy.
Gene was known for her quietness and beautiful smile, but she also had a very humorous side, as she taught by example with manners and life's joys. Her hobbies included; Sewing, canning, fishing, softball and bowling.  She had a passion for children and especially enjoyed working at Boston Avenue and Blue Lake Elementary Schools from 1973-1995.
Visitation from 1-2pm on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Lankford Funeral Home, with a service beginning at 2pm.  Internment immediately following at Oakdale Cemetery.
At her request, the family asks in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to Florida Hospital Hospice DeLand.
