Joy A. Ellis, 85, of Deland Florida passed away February 21, 2018, surrounded by family and friends at Halifax Hospice Center in Orange City, following a short illness. She was born September 8, 1932 in Corley, WV, daughter of Georgeanna Eubank (Mrs. Allen) Stalnaker. She spent much of her childhood in the home of her maternal grandparents, George Russell and Odessa Lemon Eubank. She lived for many years in Lancaster, Ohio before moving to Deland Florida in 1979. She was the owner of Reeve and Howard Gift Shop in Deland Florida until her retirement in 1996.
She is survived by her children Beth Ellis (Mrs. Alan) Alten of Canal Winchester, Ohio and her son David Ellis of California; her grandchildren Madison Ellis of New York and Jenna (Mrs. Jay) Solenbarger of Sugar Grove Ohio; three great grandchildren, twins Bella and Tyler Solenbarger, and Derek Solenbarger. She is also survived by one sister, Tammy Kaye Clifton and her companion Don Wilhelm of Salem, WV; her niece Kelly Clifton of Portland, OR and nephew Jared (Christina) Clifton of Stanford, WA and great nephew Cayden Charf. Her cousin Debbie Prince made her home with Joy Ellis for many years. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and stepfather.
Joy was a lifelong lover of cats and yard sales. She was active in the Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years and loved participating in the Operation Christmas Child and was an Elder for many years. She also prepared meals for Habitat for Humanity volunteers.
In compliance with her wishes, she was cremated and a private memorial service was held for the family. Her ashes will be buried in the family cemetery near her birthplace in Corley.
