Bobby Gene Taylor, 80, died the 25th of February 2018 at Florida Hospital DeLand after three years of battling lung cancer. His funeral service will be held Monday, March 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1401 West New York Avenue, DeLand, Florida.
Bobby was born on March 15, 1937 in Alapaha, Georgia to Jesse George Taylor and Essie Kate Lainer his parents. He is preceded in death by his son Jerry and his grandson Bobby.
He served in the United States Marine Corps in which time he moved up in rank to Gunnery Sergeant and then went to Quantico and became a CWO-4. He retired after 26 years of active service. He then got a degree to start his career as a Correction Officer at Tomoka Correctional Facility in Daytona Beach, Florida. He worked for 15 years then retired. He was a 32nd degree Mason in North Carolina Cherry Point. He was a Shriner and Eastern Star.
He married Julia Cady Taylor on August 4, 1990. He had 4 sons, 2 daughters, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors very much and spent his time feeding the squirrels, watering his plants and taking care of his yard. His favorite movie genre was westerns and he loved anything John Wayne based.
He is survived by his wife Julia, his sons Tony (Linda), Randy (Sandy), Tommy (Teresa), and 2 daughters Amanda (Eric) and Danielle. His 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
