~~Peggy Christian Johnson, born May 31, 1948 in Deland, FL went home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2017. A 4th generation Floridian, she lived her entire life in Deland. After graduating from Deland High School in 1968, she worked as a bookkeeper for Castle Farms in Orange City. Shortly thereafter, she joined GE in Daytona Beach where she worked for 17 years, until that location closed. Afterwards, she attended Daytona Beach College, earning an Associate Degree. She then attended St. Leo College where she earned a Bachelor Degree in Social Work. After graduating, she worked for Volusia County as a Program Coordinator until her retirement in 2015.
She loved Southern Gospel music and was a member of the Southernaires Gospel Quartet, singing throughout central Florida. She sang at weddings and other special occasions. She grew up attending Northside Baptist Church and later was a member of Stetson Baptist Church. More recently, she was a member of Saint Andrews Chapel in Sanford, where she was active in the Nursing Home Ministry. She was an avid Gator fan and loved to travel, especially to New York City.
She was preceded in death by her father, Maxwell Christian, mother Ina Mae Christian and husband Gordon Johnson. She is survived by her brother, Michael Christian and his wife Cynthia Christian of Delano, TN, Step-son Curtis Johnson and his wife Cindy Johnson of Hudson, FL, and precious grandchildren, Jessica Johnson and Marlee Johnson, both of Hudson, FL and her dear friend and companion, Francis Collins of Deland, FL.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Lifepoint Community Church, Student Life Center at 1747 West New York Avenue, Deland, FL on December 7, from 4-6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations go to St. Andrews Chapel, Building Fund, 5525 Wayside Drive, Sanford, FL 32771.
